National Museum of Anthropology and History

The National Museum of Anthropology is a huge museum located in the Chapultepec Forest. The precinct exhibits more than 7 thousand objects belonging to Mesoamerican cultures such as the Aztecs, Olmecs and Mayas, and is visited annually by almost 2 million people. Among its most outstanding pieces are the Stone of the Sun, the tomb of Pakal and the monolith of Tlaloc.

Xochimilco

An ancient town south of Mexico City that preserves a system of river canals, which are traveled by means of colorful barges called "trajineras". In these Mexican gondolas, visitors stroll along the canals accompanied by traditional music and typical dishes. Xochimilco is also the natural habitat of the famous Mexican salamanders.

Ruins of the Templo Mayor

In the heart of the city, next to the Metropolitan Cathedral, are the ruins of the Templo Mayor. It is an archaeological site with the remains of what was the most important religious precinct of the Aztec Empire. After the arrival of the Spaniards, the Templo Mayor was destroyed and the new city was founded on top of it. In 1978 the site was rediscovered and later a museum was inaugurated there.

Frida Kahlo House-Museum

This building, also known as "La Casa Azul", was the personal residence of painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, as well as the place where great figures of international politics and arts of the 20th century stayed, all of them friends of the famous couple. After the artist's death, in 1958 the Frida Kahlo Museum opened its doors to the public to exhibit different pieces of the Kahlo family.
