From Tijuana to Ensenada, enjoy this travel route to the Guadalupe Valley
Tijuana is a city located on the northern border of Mexico, one of the busiest in the world. The proximity to the United States, especially California, gives Tijuana a vibrant and multi-faceted essence. This city and its surroundings have a lot to offer in local tourism. The best way to get around is by renting a car, and here we tell you about one of the many routes you can take. Are you ready?
Tijuana
Spending a couple of days in Tijuana is just the beginning of this trip. Enjoy an afternoon on the city's beaches, and then visit the Tijuana Cultural Center, known for its spherical shape. Part of Tijuana's artistic culture is also reflected in the urban art that is reflected in the walls that divide this city on its border with the United States. We recommend a stroll through downtown and, if you are traveling with friends, you will not regret the nightlife.
Tijuana's gastronomy is very interesting, as it incorporates different types of cuisine such as Mediterranean or French with Mexican. Street food in Tijuana is a whole culture; don't forget to try the birria and the most popular "quesabirrias", accompanied by a good consomé. If you prefer the classic, you can go to Caesar's restaurant, birthplace of the Caesar salad, and learn about the original preparation of this iconic and renowned salad.
Rosarito
A 30-minute drive from Tijuana is Rosarito, a beach destination par excellence for any traveler who wants to get to know the city's surroundings. On this beach, families, groups of friends and couples travel to spend an afternoon on this beautiful coast and eat the typical seafood dishes offered in the area, such as lobster or fried fish with garlic.
Coronado Island
In Rosarito you can take a boat trip to nearby Coronado Island, where the marine biodiversity will leave you speechless. Diving to see the marine fauna and flora is a unique experience, especially if you travel during the season when orcas, blue, gray and humpback whales, among other animals, make their migration route.
Ensenada
A 1.5 hour drive from Rosarito, or 2 hours from Tijuana to Ensenada, will be the gateway to the Guadalupe Valley, where approximately 90% of Mexican wine is produced.
Spending a couple of days in Ensenada is highly recommended to get to know the city and do some wine tours in this emblematic place of Mexican wine. In Ensenada we recommend visiting the following places:
- La Bufadora
- El Mercado Negro (sea market)
- Todos Santos Bay
- Vine and Wine Museum
Food in Ensenada
Remember that Ensenada's location gives it great access to fresh seafood, don't miss the variety of shrimp dishes, tripe, lobsters, clams, fish tacos and all kinds of seafood. We especially recommend you to visit La Guerrerense, known for having the best national and international chefs.
Guadalupe Valley
Visiting a couple of vineyards is a must if you go to Ensenada. You can also walk, ride a wagon or bicycle through these places, and then go to the wine tasting and enjoy them with a pairing of specially prepared dishes. We recommend visiting the Guadalupe Valley between the months of April and July, since, although it may vary a little, this is the best time to better appreciate the lush vineyards and the landscape.
If you travel in August, you cannot miss the Fiestas de la vendimia, where local cheeses and wines are tasted as a tribute to the harvest season. As part of the activities there are tastings by top chefs, tastings, wine pairings, workshops and concerts, among many other activities.
You can find lodging options very close to the best wineries in the valley. Many of them even offer lodging services, so you can enjoy a sunset with the best views.
Although Tijuana is mostly known for being the busiest border in the world, its city and nearby places are worthy of a road trip.
